Fredericksburg, Texas

If you’re going to be anywhere near Frederickburg, TX on Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving, there’s lots of shopping to be done! That’s where I’ll be, at the Marketplatz, at the Texas Arts and Crafts Thanksgiving show. I’m looking seriously at putting in for the annual Arts and Crafts Fair next summer. Anyway, Fredericksburg is the place to be this Friday and Saturday!

Salado Highland Games this weekend

Filed under: shows and sales — leisa @ 9:54 pm November 13, 2009

It’s my first out-of-town full weekend show! The Games are Saturday and Sunday, and setup was today, Friday. I’m collecting more learning experiences.

  1. Weights are, and should be, secondary to stakes. Stakes are best for anchoring when you’re able to use them.
  2. I need to add a hammer/mallet to my supply box. You know, for the stakes.
  3. On a windy day, stakes and weights should go first, and then walls.
  4. Other vendors are very generous and friendly to rookies like me.
  5. Always confirm that you have a nonsmoking room at the motel.

It’s very nice to have plenty of time to set up. I’m hoping to take some photos tomorrow morning that I can use for a booth shot.

Illustrating with a typewriter

I met a great artist a few weeks ago at the Bastrop show, Stephanie Strange. Her work is done with a manual typewriter, just using upper and lower case “o” and the period. It took my breath away. I took home two small pieces, and I just love them. I really hope she gets her website fleshed out soon, so she can show more of her work.

I just made a new blocking board for the jewelry-sized doilies. The previous one was looking a bit pincushiony. I block everything viciously on concentric circles. Makes everything look gooooood!

The weather was beautiful! I see new vendors every month. I’m starting to feel like a veteran — this was my fifth show here in the Heights.

Nice press, and coming events

I got a mention in a Houston Chronicle blog, Home in the Heights. It’s so cool to see your name in print! As the post mentions, I will be at the First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights again this Saturday.

As a matter of fact, I have four shows over the next five weekends. Check out my home page for the dates and places.

(Thanks, Mitch, for the heads up on the Chronicle blog post, and for running the market so well!)

New online shop at 1000 Markets

Filed under: shows and sales — leisa @ 8:29 pm November 3, 2009

I have a new online shop! 1000 Markets is a great new direct-from-artisan site. Aaaaand you don’t have to join up just to buy something! I still have my Etsy shop, and for the time being, there are separate items on the two sites, except for the snowflake ornaments. We’ll see how everything shakes out, but I’m very excited about the new shop!
