This weekend I’m doing a big batch of dyeing. I hope, hope, hope I get some of the colors I want out of this. I’m sure whatever colors I end up with will be really cool, but I’d like to get better at accomplishing my intended shades!
I forgot that I need to make little crocheted doodahs to keep in my sample notebook. So I gotta crank out about a dozen of those before I fall asleep tonight.
Update: Not happening this weekend. There are too many other things to do, and I couldn’t get started early enough on Saturday. So I’ll reschedule for weekend after next.
Update 2: Re-reschedule. I did the dye part this evening (Sunday) and I can do the fixing and rinsing Tuesday evening. The beige/mushroom I’m trying to accomplish looks kind of pale. The black looks good, but it has before, too. The red is a little on the hot pink side right now. It’ll be interesting to see what all of it looks like on Tuesday night.
How much fun was this! I put some jewelry in the silent auction/reception for the Texas Museum of Fiber Arts annual exhibit. (No, I’m not in the exhibit part. The theme was Big as Texas, and my stuff is, well, not big.) The reception was terrific. I saw some amazing art in all kinds of fibers, up to and including woven glass. Met some really neat people. And all my jewelry was bid on and went to happy new homes. Had a great, great time!
What a wonderful weekend! In every way. I had a terrific time spending my first full weekend as a vendor. Of course, I was so close to the stage that I didn’t have to miss a note of music, and even kept my usual gig of selling CDs for Clandestine and Teribus.
Thanks especially to my neighbor, Craig Scotland and his lovely bride Deanna of Jiggernaut, for all their help and advice. And also to Ros and Paul Shepherd, who run the whole darn thing. It couldn’t have gone better. Well, okay, I could have remembered to photograph a couple of pairs of earrings that I sold. But if that’s my biggest tragedy, I’ll find a way to carry on!
[Click to embiggen] Here’s what my booth looked like before I rearranged and took down the back wall to see the stage:

And here’s what you do when the rainstorm won’t let you perform with amplification. If you look closely, you can see the world-famous Marybeth McQueen sitting in my booth, as a backdrop for Clandestine’s unexpected acoustic show. Whee!

So I’m about to have my first big weekend show! I set up my booth today, and the Games are on Saturday and Sunday. I’m right at the foot of the main stage, facing away from the stage and toward the center of the arena. So after I set everything up and take some nice pictures, that back wall is coming off! No way am I missing what’s going on the stage.
There are still signs warning about flooding, but the entrance to the Houston Farm & Ranch Club is just off Hwy 6, and it’s high and dry. If for some reason it’s not available (might rain Saturday night), an alternate entrance will be clearly marked.
I worked furiously to create some more earrings before this weekend. I have eight new pairs, but I haven’t had time to photograph them yet! I may only get one shot, modeled by the customer. Okay. I’ll take that.
Come on out for great music, athletics, dancing and shopping!
This is what happens after crocheting and before mounting. I made the blocking board with concentric circles myself. There are lots and lots of pins involved…

I’ve just uploaded some new photos to Flickr! I’ve got little doilies in frames I’ve hunted and scavenged, and the Texas Blue Bonnet and Gunn tartan scarves. I’ll have everything for show and sale at the Houston Highland Games on May 16-17. See you there!

The First Saturday Arts Market was great fun! I made a few sales and met some really nice folks. It certainly was hot and muggy, though, and I’m really glad I brought an electric fan and had the juice for it. I’m making my list for “next time,” and aspirin is definitely on the list.
I met a fellow Leisa and we exchanged business cards. There aren’t many of us!
I don’t think I’m going to do the evening shows in the summer, but I’m formulating plans for White Linen Night.
